Patrick Mahomes Resembles Tom Brady, Avoids Locker Room Division.
A veteran staffer from the Kansas City Chiefs commended quarterback Patrick Mahomes for his skill in saying “all the right things” publicly and maintaining harmony in the locker room, comparing him to seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady.
“Pat’s similar to [Tom] Brady in that way,” the staffer told Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated. “He’s just got a knack for saying all the right things, and things that never cause any division in the locker room.”
These comments came in the context of Mahomes’ response to teammate Harrison Butker’s controversial commencement speech at Benedictine College.
When asked about Butker’s speech, Mahomes said: “I’ve known him for seven years. I judge him by the character he shows every day and that’s a good person. … We’re not always going to agree. He said certain things I don’t agree with.”
Mahomes has had a remarkable career as the Chiefs’ QB1 since 2018, securing three Super Bowl wins, three Super Bowl MVP awards, and two NFL MVP awards.
At 28, Mahomes is on track to potentially match or exceed Brady’s Super Bowl record if he continues at this pace. His on-field success and off-field poise have earned him high praise.
Mahomes and the Chiefs will kick off their 2024 season on Sept. 5 against the Baltimore Ravens.
