There are very few days that pass without 2025 small forward Ashton Magee talking to Mississippi State’s All-Southeastern Conference guard Josh Hubbard. Magee, currently an unranked senior recruit according to 247sports, played alongside Hubbard last season at Madison-Ridgeland Academy. If things go well in Magee’s final high school year, the pair might reunite in Starkville.
“Hubbard stays on me a lot to ensure I’m working hard and not slacking,” Magee told GenesPage.com during Mississippi State’s team recruiting camp at The Humphrey Coliseum on Friday. “He makes sure I’m ready to take on this new journey to the next level.”
Magee hasn’t received an offer from Mississippi State yet, but he remains highly sought after in Mississippi, with scholarship offers from Ole Miss and Southern Mississippi. Both Magee and his freshman teammate, Erick Dampier Jr., are still on Mississippi State’s radar.
“Everything has been pretty good,” Magee said about his recruitment. “Mississippi State has shown a lot of love. Despite injuries, my recruitment has had its ups and downs, but the process has been amazing and I hope the next two months will be even better.”
Regarding Mississippi State, Magee mentioned that he stays in touch mostly with assistant coaches George Brooks and Patrice Days, who are expecting a strong senior season from him.
“They want me to be more of a killer,” Magee said. “To go out there and be a dog every chance I get on the court.”
If this eventually leads to an offer from Mississippi State, the Bulldogs could be in a strong position thanks to Magee’s relationship with his former high school teammate.
“Having a former teammate at Mississippi State and being around the guys,” Magee said. “I feel pretty good getting to know everyone better than at the other schools recruiting me.”
