Mississippi State softball has been seeded second in the 2024 NCAA Tournament regional. Below is the bracket.

Mississippi State softball has secured a place in the NCAA tournament, earning the No. 2 seed in the Stanford Regional announced on Sunday.

The regional, hosted by national No. 8 seed Stanford, also features No. 3 seed Cal State Fullerton and No. 4 seed Saint Mary’s. The teams will compete in a double-elimination format, with the winner advancing to the super regionals.

For Mississippi State and coach Samantha Ricketts, this marks a return to the NCAA tournament following one of the program’s most successful regular seasons. The Bulldogs finished with a 33-18 overall record and a 12-12 mark in SEC play, their best conference performance since 2012 and their first .500 or better SEC finish since 2007.

MSU started the season strongly with nonconference wins over teams like Louisiana, Clemson, and Utah. In SEC action, they secured series victories against rivals such as Ole Miss, Arkansas, South Carolina, and Georgia.

Throughout the season, Mississippi State was in contention to host a regional, reaching as high as No. 16 in the USA TODAY/NFCA Coaches Poll. Despite their strong performance, they were eliminated in the SEC tournament after a late-night game against South Carolina ended in an 8-4 defeat, hampering their chances to bolster their RPI for hosting considerations.

Although Mississippi State has never hosted a regional, their memorable upset of Florida State in the 2022 Tallahassee Regional led to them hosting a super regional against Arizona.
