Pittsburgh basketball head coach Jeff Capel observes potential recruits.

Pitt Panthers men’s basketball head coach Jeff Capel has dedicated significant time in June to recruiting, and this weekend is no exception. Capel returned to his home state of North Carolina to observe three particular recruits at the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA) June Scholastic Live, Session 2. According to Jamie Shaw of On3, these recruits are Isaiah Denis, Jaylen Cross, and Kobe Edwards.

Isaiah Denis, a guard, has been a focus of Capel and his coaching staff this summer. They extended an offer to him in late May and have scheduled an official visit for August 30. Capel also watched Denis during the previous weekend at NCISAA June Scholastic Live, Session 1. Denis is also set to visit Ohio State on September 7 and Michigan on September 21.

Jaylen Cross, a 6-foot-3 guard in the Class of 2025 from Caldwell Academy in Greensboro, NC, is another player Capel is interested in, although an offer has not yet been made. Cross showcased his skills at NCISAA June Scholastic Live, Session 2, impressing with 27 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and three blocks in his first game.

Kobe Edwards, a 6-foot guard from Greenfield School in Wilson, NC, was also observed by Capel. Like Cross, Edwards has not received an offer yet, but he has drawn attention for his ability to drive to the basket and shoot from beyond the arc.

These players are attracting interest from numerous schools, including those in the ACC, SEC, Big Ten, and other conferences, reflecting their potential and the competitive recruiting environment they are in.
