The first practice of Grey Cup week for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers was conducted without quarterback Zach Collaros.

In the midst of blowing snow on a minor-league field in suburban Regina on Wednesday, backup Dru Brown worked out with the first team.

When Collaros was tackled during Sunday’s West final victory over the B.C. Lions, it appeared like he had a right ankle injury.

For Winnipeg’s last series, Collaros returned to IG Field with his ankle firmly bandaged, but he soon started to limp and left for the sidelines.

The quarterback’s absence on Wednesday raises the question, “How good?” Bombers coach Mike O’Shea stated upon arriving in the capital city of Saskatchewan, “I think he’ll be good” for Sunday’s championship game against the Toronto Argonauts.

“You should never have to respond to inquiries such as

QBs in the CFL frequently receive excessive credit and blame for the results of games. The Blue Bombers are strong on special teams, defense, and offense. They are the favorites to win three straight games on Sunday.

But without a strong quarterback, a club doesn’t win the championship in November.

With his accurate and efficient arm, Collaros can move the chains; yet, a stiff ankle might make it difficult for him to scramble and throw on Sunday.
