Patrick Kane has agreed to a new one-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings.
Patrick Kane is set to join the Detroit Red Wings for the upcoming season under a contract that offers him the opportunity to earn up to $6.5 million if he contributes to ending the team’s long playoff drought. According to a source familiar with the matter who spoke anonymously to The Associated Press because the terms were not publicly disclosed, Kane signed a one-year deal on Sunday. The contract is reportedly valued at $4 million in base salary, with an additional $2.5 million available through incentives. Kane, a 35-year-old forward from Buffalo, has persevered through hip resurfacing surgery, a rare procedure in the NHL, and had a productive first season with the Red Wings, tallying 20 goals and 27 assists. He is recognized as one of the top American-born players in NHL history, ranking second only to Mike Modano in career points with 1,284. Kane, who has won three Stanley Cups with Chicago, will enter his 17th professional season with Detroit.
