A former quarterback from Pitt has been chosen in the UFL draft.
Former Pitt Panthers quarterback Kedon Slovis has a backup plan for his football career if things don’t go as expected with the Indianapolis Colts. Despite going undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft, Slovis was selected 12th overall in the UFL College Draft by the D.C. Defenders.
Currently, Slovis is focused on earning a spot with the Colts during the offseason as an undrafted free agent, competing for a place in the quarterback lineup or potentially a spot on the practice squad.
However, if his endeavors in Indianapolis do not pan out, Slovis has the option to join the UFL. As a second-round pick by the D.C. Defenders, he could be viewed as their prospective starting quarterback, which might further his opportunities in the NFL following a strong performance in the spring.
Slovis began his collegiate career at USC, where he played for three seasons before transferring to Pitt. During his time with the Panthers, he threw for 2,397 yards and 10 touchdowns but also had nine interceptions. After a brief stint in Pittsburgh, he entered the transfer portal again, spending his final college football season at BYU.
In his new role with the Defenders, Slovis will face competition from Jordan Ta’amu, a former draft pick who excelled with the second-most passing yards and touchdowns in the previous UFL season. At 26 years old, Ta’amu aims to maintain his position as the team’s starting quarterback but will now contend with Slovis, the incoming second-round selection.
