The Arlington Renegades, coached by Bob Stoops, selected former Oklahoma wide receiver Drake Stoops in the UFL College Draft.

The Arlington Renegades of the United Football League, led by legendary former Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops, selected Drake Stoops in the 10th round of the UFL College Draft held on Wednesday.

Drake Stoops had an outstanding 2023 season, topping his team with 84 receptions for 962 yards and 10 touchdowns, earning him a spot on the All-Big 12 First Team. Although he entered the NFL Draft following his senior year, he went undrafted and subsequently signed a free agent contract with the Los Angeles Rams.

Stoops participated in the Rams’ rookie camp, and if he makes the team’s roster, he is unlikely to join the Renegades despite them holding his UFL rights.

According to Spotrac, Stoops signed a three-year, $2.838 million deal with the Rams, which includes an $8,000 signing bonus and a base salary of $795,000 this year.

Bob Stoops coached the Oklahoma Sooners for 18 seasons from 1999 to 2016, amassing a 190-48 record and winning a national championship in 2000. He was honored as the Big 12 Coach of the Year six times before retiring in 2017 as the winningest coach in program history.

After a brief retirement, Stoops coached the Dallas Renegades in the XFL’s 2020 season until the league’s suspension due to COVID-19. Following the league’s acquisition by a consortium led by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson later that year, Stoops returned to coach the Arlington Renegades, leading them to a championship victory over the DC Defenders in 2023.

In 2024, the XFL merged with the USFL to form the UFL for the current season.

Stoops notably returned to coach one game for the Sooners in 2021, leading them to a victory in the Alamo Bowl after Lincoln Riley’s departure to USC. Drake Stoops contributed to the win by catching a 6-yard touchdown pass from Caleb Williams.

Several former Renegades players, including Oklahoma alum Jalen Redmond, have moved on to NFL contracts after successful stints in the XFL and UFL. Redmond recently signed a one-year, $795,000 contract with the Minnesota Vikings after an impressive season with the Renegades, tallying 18 tackles and 4.5 sacks.
