Indiana Update: A Highly Respected Veteran Of Five NBA Season, And Former Standout For The Indiana University, Has Been Chosen For…

Yogi Ferrell, a former standout from Indiana University, will captain ‘Assembly Ball’ in The Basketball Tournament.

Yogi Ferrell, a veteran of five NBA seasons and former standout for Indiana University, will lead “Assembly Ball,” a team of Hoosier alumni, in this summer’s edition of The Basketball Tournament, as announced by TBT on Thursday.

Earlier in May, it was revealed that Indiana would field its inaugural alumni team in the tournament’s 11-year history. The roster includes former Indiana stars like Devonte Green, Juwan Morgan, Troy Williams, and Miller Kopp.

Ferrell, who played point guard throughout his entire four-year career at Indiana from 2012 to 2016, is a key figure among the former Hoosiers. He played a pivotal role in Indiana’s resurgence during the mid-2010s, averaging over 16 points per game in each of his final three seasons and maintaining a career average of 4.6 assists. Ferrell earned first-team All-Big Ten honors twice and contributed to two regular-season Big Ten titles and two Sweet 16 appearances in the NCAA tournament.

After his college career, Ferrell entered the NBA as an undrafted rookie and made an immediate impact, earning All-Rookie second team honors in 2017 with the Dallas Mavericks, where he averaged 11.3 points and 4.3 assists per game. Currently, Ferrell competes for Budućnost in Montenegro’s Prva A liga.

Morgan and Williams, former teammates of Ferrell at Indiana, also had stints in the NBA. Green has excelled internationally since leaving Indiana in 2020, including winning the Swedish League Finals MVP in 2022 with the Norrköping Dolphins. Kopp, a recent Indiana graduate after transferring from Northwestern, boasts the record for most games played in Big Ten history and helped the Oklahoma City Blue secure the G League championship last season.

“Assembly Ball” will participate in the regional competition at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis from July 19-23. Butler University, also based at Hinkle Fieldhouse, will field its first-ever alumni team in The Basketball Tournament this year.

The 64-team lineup for this summer’s tournament features notable alumni squads such as La Familia (Kentucky), The Ville (Louisville), and Stars of Storrs (UConn), which includes former national champions Joey Calcaterra, Ryan Boatright, and DeAndre Daniels. Additionally, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal recently announced his support for a team named “Team Diesel” in TBT.
