Despite Celtic’s persistent interest, Johannes Hoff Thorup is certain that Adam Idah will play a key role for his Norwich club this season.
The Hoops are in a frantic attempt to permanently get back the loanee from the previous season as Brendan Rodgers needs more offensive punch to rival Kyogo after selling Oh to Genk. Despite rumblings from the English Championship team suggesting they don’t want to sell, the Scottish champions are expected to keep trying after their initial offer of £4 million plus add-ons was turned down.
The 22-year-old’s desire to impress the new manager Thorup during preseason was evident from the beginning. Despite ongoing inquiries about Celtic’s interest, he has stuck to it and expressed excitement about collaborating with the Republic.
For the second straight Norwich friendlies, Idah got the start and assisted in the goal as they drew 1-1 with Standard Liege. The Dane is unwavering even if his performance didn’t win over fans.
When asked if there was any news regarding transfers, he chuckled and said, “I have no idea.” After the final whistle, I had a quick conversation with the players and organised our return flight, so we will find out when we get to Norwich tonight.”
“Like we said from day one, he’s a vital part of the group and of the squad here,” he continued when pressed about Idah. Fortunately, or perhaps sadly, we have players who are being pursued by other teams. However, that is something we should constantly aim for.
“But Adam is a nice man with good enthusiasm who is working hard in his training. He’s doing incredibly well. And I hope it’s clear to him and to everyone else that he will be an important member of our team.”
