The wife of a New York Yankees executive was discovered deceased at their residence in New Jersey.

Rachel Minaya, wife of New York Yankees executive Omar Minaya, was found unconscious and unresponsive at their New Jersey home on Saturday and subsequently declared deceased. She was 55 years old.

Authorities have not disclosed a cause of death, but suicide has been ruled out, according to the New York Post. Omar was not present at home when Rachel was discovered.

The Yankees announced Rachel’s passing on Monday and observed a moment of silence in her honor before their home game against the Tampa Bay Rays. In their statement, the Yankees expressed deep sorrow over her loss and described her as a loving and supportive mother and wife to those closest to her.

Rachel and Omar Minaya had been married for more than three decades and have two adult sons, Teddy and Justin, the latter of whom plays for the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers.

Omar Minaya, 65, has held prominent roles in Major League Baseball, including general manager positions with the Montreal Expos and New York Mets. He joined the Yankees’ front office in January 2023 after serving in various capacities with other MLB teams.

The Yankees praised Omar for his significant contributions to baseball and noted his ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds. They extended their heartfelt condolences to Omar, his sons, and their extended family and friends during this difficult time, emphasizing that Rachel’s passing is deeply mourned throughout the baseball community.
