The Brewers made a few tweaks to their
roster this morning. Joey Wiemer, who left yesterday’s game in the eighth inning after an awkward play in the outfield,
was placed on the 10-day IL with “knee discomfort.” (This injury, which occurred after the Brewers emptied their bench,
led to a precarious defensive alignment to end the game with Jake Bauers in left f
ield and the hobbled Gary Sánchez playing first base. All’s well that ends well.)
In a corresponding move, the team recalled Andruw Monasterio from Triple-A Nashville, which for the
moment leaves Bauers as the team’s fourth outfielder. Monasterio hasn’t
found his way with the bat yet, as he doesn’t have a hit in nine at-bats in the
majors and is hitting just .243/.362/.297 in Triple-A.
That wasn’t the only move Milwaukee made this morning, as they optioned recently acquired Corbin Martin back to
Nashville before he made an appearance with the major league club. Taking his
place in the majors is Jared Koenig, who pitched an inning on Thursday in the minors.
