BYU Basketball is said to be among the top five contenders for point guard Jalen Blackmon.

BYU basketball is in contention for one of the top scoring guards available in the transfer portal. Jalen Blackmon, a transfer from Stetson, has included BYU among his final choices, as reported by ESPN’s Jeff Borzello. The Cougars are in the top five alongside Miami, Northwestern, Cal, and Villanova.

Last season, Blackmon averaged 21.3 points per game, ranking 10th nationally. He shot 43% from the field and 38% from three-point range. Blackmon began his career at Grand Canyon before transferring to Stetson, where his performance significantly improved. As a sophomore, he averaged 15.4 points per game, up from just 2.7 points per game as a freshman. His junior season saw him continue to excel with his 21.3-point average. With one year of eligibility left, he has entered the transfer portal to explore his options, aiming for a move to a Power Five conference.

BYU is seeking a scoring guard following Jaxson Robinson’s decision to enter the NBA Draft. Robinson was the Cougars’ leading scorer last season, and the point guard position is also a concern, with Dallin Hall still in the transfer portal. Blackmon would be an excellent addition to BYU’s roster, although the competition with other finalists will be tough.

New BYU head coach Kevin Young is still finalizing the roster for next season and has at least two, and possibly up to four, scholarships available.
