RESTORING THE GLORY

Tigers starter Keider Montero entered play with the 14th-highest ERA of any pitcher that’s thrown more than 50 innings in MLB this season (5.76). The

right-hander threw five sparkling innings, giving up just two hits while striking out five and walking two.

The Yankees didn’t have any better luck against Detroit’s bullpen either. They

finished with four total hits in the lifeless loss, one more knock than their season-low. With the loss, the Yankees are now

10-19 when they don’t hit a home run this season and 5-24 when they score two runs or fewer.

There was only one at-bat through the first eight innings where the Yankees had a runner in scoring position. First

baseman Ben Rice flew out to center field with two outs in the second inning with runners on first and third.
