Former Steele standout and current Indianapolis Colts cornerback Jaylon Jones has been named AFC Defensive Player of the Week.
Indianapolis Colts cornerback Jaylon Jones has been honored as the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his outstanding performance in Week 3.
A graduate of Steele High School, Jones made five tackles, two interceptions, and a tackle for loss during the Colts’ 21-16 win against the Bears. He is now the second player this season to achieve two interceptions in a single game, following Ja’Marcus Ingram of the Buffalo Bills in Week 2.
These two interceptions mark the first of Jones’ career and the Colts’ first two of the season, with one coming from rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, the top pick in the 2024 draft.
This accolade is Jones’ first Defensive Player of the Week award. He becomes the sixth Colts defensive back to earn this recognition in the last decade, joining a notable list that includes Mike Adams, Darius Butler, Mike Mitchell, Xavier Rhodes, and Kenny Moore.
In 2019, Jones was a five-star recruit and chose to play college football at Texas A&M. The Colts selected him in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft with the 221st overall pick.
