Chase Daniel Claims Anthony Richardson Has ‘Lost Respect’ from Every NFL Player Ever

Former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel didn’t mince words when commenting on Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson’s choice to take himself out during Sunday’s loss to the Houston Texans.

“What’s going on here?” Daniel said on the Scoop City podcast with The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, released Tuesday (29:50 mark). “You remove yourself from the game? And then you pat your head?”

“Just lie to the media. Don’t ever say that again in your career. You’ve lost the respect of every football player, quarterback, and offensive lineman who’s played the game. I know I’m being tough, but this situation calls for it. I’ve never seen anything like this in my life. It’s inexcusable and beyond explanation. He should seriously consider being benched. That’s my take on it.”

Richardson had asked to be subbed out after several consecutive scrambles during a drive, leading to Joe Flacco stepping in briefly.

Richardson later admitted, “I was tired, I won’t lie. That was a lot of running, and I didn’t think I could go for the next play. I needed a break.”

Colts head coach Shane Steichen noted, “We talked about it this morning in the quarterback room, which I’ll keep private, but he understands that in those situations, you can’t take yourself out.”

The Texans won the game 23-20, completing a sweep over the Colts this season and improving to 6-2, two games ahead of Indianapolis in the division.

Richardson struggled in the passing game, completing just 10 of 32 attempts for 175 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, while also being sacked five times, contributing to his fatigue.

At this point in his career, concerns about Richardson’s ability to meet franchise quarterback expectations largely center on his passing accuracy. The No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft has completed only 44.4 percent of his passes, with four touchdowns and seven interceptions this season.

While he excels at making plays with his legs, that also led to his fatigue on Sunday, resulting in the criticism from a former player.
