Chris Haynes has disclosed that the Sixers are monitoring Dejounte Murray, according to a report.
With the NBA trade deadline approaching, Philadelphia, armed with assets from the James Harden trade, is expected to feature in various trade speculations, eyeing potential roster upgrades.
Previously linked closely to OG Anunoby before his trade to the New York Knicks, the Sixers have seen interest in players like Pascal Siakam wane in recent rumors. However, ahead of their recent game against the Knicks, the team was associated with another former All-Star in the East.
During discussions regarding the availability of Dejounte Murray from the Atlanta Hawks, Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report noted that multiple teams, including the Sixers, are keeping tabs on him. Haynes suggested that while the Sixers are inquiring about Murray, he might not be their primary target.
“I’ve heard from sources that teams that have reached out about him, Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers are a few of the teams,” Haynes said. “I don’t think Philly, as it pertains to the Philadelphia 76ers, I don’t believe that Dejounte Murray is their No. 1 target.”
Murray, a former All-Star and steals champion with the San Antonio Spurs, has been a significant contributor for the Atlanta Hawks this season, averaging 20.6 PPG, 4.6 RPG, and 5.2 APG over 33 games. Notably, he’s currently shooting a career-best 38.3% from three on six attempts per game.
At 6-foot-5 with a 6-foot-10 wingspan, Murray fits the mold of the two-way player the Sixers seek. His defensive prowess, averaging 1.5 steals per game, aligns well with the defensive strategy alongside Tyrese Maxey in the backcourt.
However, a potential hurdle for the Sixers could be Murray’s contract, a four-year, $114 million deal he signed in the past offseason. With the current roster setup projecting significant cap space for the upcoming offseason, acquiring someone like Murray might impact the team’s financial flexibility, potentially influencing their decision-making process.
