During his final season with the team, Johnson took on a more prominent role due to Cam Rising’s knee injury, alternating playing time with Bryson Barnes. In seven games, he completed 39 of 72 passes for 499 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also showcased his rushing ability, gaining 235 yards and scoring four touchdowns on the ground.
Despite his mobility adding a dynamic aspect to the offense, defenses adjusted to limit his running, which posed challenges for his passing game. Fans speculated that his speed would make him an excellent receiver, but Johnson has firmly stated his preference to remain at quarterback. On April Fools’ Day, he humorously tweeted about switching to wide receiver, though he later confirmed he would continue competing as a quarterback. In Nashville, he will vie for the starting quarterback position alongside Diego Pavia, a transfer from New Mexico State.
