Terrion Arnold is making a compelling argument to earn a starting role for the Lions and has already been dubbed “Sub-Zero” by teammate Derrick Barnes.
According to ESPN’s Eric Woodyard, Arnold approached the offseason program “with the confidence of a seasoned veteran and has validated it with his early performances as he competes for a starting role.” Woodyard notes that Arnold demonstrated a knack for finding the football during mandatory minicamp, where he matched up against star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and intercepted quarterback Jared Goff.
Regarding the nickname “Sub-Zero,” here’s how Woodyard described it:
“Lions’ teammate Derrick Barnes has already given him a nickname that references both his jersey number and his ability to shut down receivers… ‘You see it now, call him Sub Zero, out there doing what he do,’ Barnes said of Arnold.”
The Lions’ secondary has been identified as a key area of concern. Arnold aims to bolster the defense and help Detroit overcome last season’s NFC Championship Game defeat to the San Francisco 49ers as they pursue a Super Bowl berth.
