The Dragons’ forwards dominated the Broncos in the first half, particularly second-rower Jaydn Su’A, who delivered an exceptional performance against his former team at Suncorp Stadium, having been omitted from the Queensland side.
St George Illawarra capitalized on Brisbane’s errors, scoring three of their four first-half tries within nine minutes to establish a commanding 22-6 lead by halftime, leaving the crowd of 34,224 stunned.
Following the match, Broncos coach Kevin Walters expressed frustration and vented his disappointment at his players before leaving the locker room in a visibly agitated state.
