Morris secures a late equalizer for Town.
Vincent Kompany, Burnley’s manager, criticized the decision to allow Luton’s injury-time equalizer to stand as the Hatters secured a last-minute point at Turf Moor last night.
With five minutes of added time and the visitors trailing 1-0, Alfie Doughty delivered a final cross into the box. Clarets’ keeper James Trafford moved off his line to claim the ball, colliding with Town striker Elijah Adebayo and falling to the ground. Carlton Morris rose highest to nod into the empty net for his fourth goal of the season.
Referee Tony Harrington awarded the goal, and despite a lengthy VAR check, no reason was found to disallow it. This ensured that Town earned a crucial point in their battle to avoid relegation. Speaking afterward, Kompany expressed his frustration, stating, “What are we doing? Seriously, it’s a joke, it’s a joke.”
Kompany defended his team but questioned the decision, saying, “I don’t understand how we can go through these events and not come to the conclusion that it’s a foul.” He highlighted the striker’s actions, claiming there was a clear attempt to impede the goalkeeper from getting up. Despite his complaint, Kompany acknowledged Luton’s excellence, emphasizing, “I appreciate that. I want people to understand how this is against my nature to complain about such things.”
