Amass was one of the standout academy stars of United’s pre-season tour, starting
all three games and impressing, particularly in the first two.
His performance against Liverpool was a mixed bag. Up against one of the world’s best right wingers in Mo Salah, Amass
looked rattled and out of his depth at times and composed and confident at others.
After the game, manager Erik ten Hag compared the 17 year old to last season’s
breakthrough star, Kobbie Mainoo, saying he “is not that far along now [as
Mainoo was] at this moment… but if we train him well, if we coach him well,
then in three months it’s possible that he can be at that point.”
