How Bumphis acquired it, however, is still a mystery.
“I honestly don’t know,” Whittemore said Friday while talking with local media members following the Bulldogs’ practice
session. “He must buy them for everybody and wears them around the facility. I don’t know what he was doing.”
Bumphis, Mississippi State’s second-year wideouts coach has been one of
Whittemore’s biggest cheerleaders since camp started last week in preparations for Mississippi State’s first game against
Eastern Kentucky on Aug. 31 at Davis Wade Stadium, saying just because the Bulldogs added a bunch of new offensive
toys from the transfer portal and high school ranks, Whittemore shouldn’t be forgotten about.
Whittemore, one of just a handful of returning players from last year’s receiver room, is still looking to establish his role for this season, noting his
dependability each day is what could give him a leg up amongst his pass-catching teammates.
“You got to be that guy that comes out and works hard every day,” Whittemore said. “That’s where I have separated
myself. I feel like I come out and give 100% every day. I’m going to run hard, run the right route. Just knowing the
plays is something big with Coach (Jeff) Lebby. He always says he’s going to play the guys he can trust. So I want
