OU football receiver ruled out for the 2024 season.
OU football coach Brent Venables announced on Tuesday that junior wide receiver Jayden Gibson will “not be returning” for the 2024 season.
Gibson reportedly sustained a knee injury during practice last Tuesday. He played in all 13 games last season for the Sooners, making 14 receptions for 375 yards and five touchdowns.
Prior to Gibson’s injury, the wide receiver corps at OU seemed to be recovering well. Andrel Anthony, who had season-ending surgery last year after the game against Texas, has been participating in preseason camp. Jalil Farooq, who dealt with a foot injury, has had no restrictions in practice.
Venables highlighted the contributions of Purdue transfer Deion Burks, J.J. Hester, and freshmen C and Zion Ragins, who have stepped up in Gibson’s absence.
The Sooners will kick off their season against Temple at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, airing on ESPN.
