In potentially the biggest news in track and field since the Paris Olympic Games, reports suggest that Christian Coleman is set to join Sha’Carri Richardson at the Star Athletics Track Club in Florida, coached by Dennis Mitchell.
Currently under the guidance of Tim Hall, associate head coach for track and field at the University of Tennessee, Coleman has played a crucial role in his rise as one of the fastest sprinters in history.
He holds the 60m world record with a time of 6.34 seconds and boasts an impressive career, including multiple NCAA titles, the 2019 world 100m championship, and two world 60m championships (2018 and 2024), along with several world relay medals.
At 28 years old, Coleman has a personal best of 9.76 seconds in the 100m, ranking him as the sixth fastest sprinter ever. He has also claimed the Diamond League title in both 2018 and 2023 and ended the seasons of 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2023 as the world No. 1 ranked sprinter.
However, this season has been disappointing for Coleman, as he failed to qualify for the US 100m and 200m Olympic teams for Paris, finishing fourth despite running the fastest qualifying times.
Furthermore, he has not improved his times since 2019 and has not won an international 100m medal, leading some fans to suggest that a change in coaching may be beneficial after years with Hall.
If the rumors are true, as Coach Johnson mentioned on X during a podcast livestream, Coleman will be joining a talented group at Star Athletics that includes Richardson, US double silver medallist Kenny Bednarek, Olympic qualifiers Twanisha Terry and Melissa Jefferson, and Canadian sprinter Aaron Brown.
