David Gilmour Shares the Pink Floyd Classics He Won’t Perform.
David Gilmour has disclosed three classic Pink Floyd songs that he won’t perform live.
As a key member of the iconic progressive rock band, Gilmour helped bring their innovative ideas to a worldwide audience. Although the band’s time together has ended, he continues to be creative and recently released a new solo album.
With upcoming tour dates, including a performance at London’s renowned Royal Albert Hall, Gilmour is currently selecting his set list.
While fans can look forward to some classic Pink Floyd tracks, there may be a few letdowns.
In an interview with MOJO, Gilmour shared that he feels uneasy about performing certain Pink Floyd songs, expressing concerns about “ownership” and their themes.
“There are songs from the past that I no longer feel comfortable singing. I love ‘Run Like Hell’; I enjoyed creating the music for it, but the lyrics, ‘You’d better run, run, run…’ now seem a bit terrifying and violent to me,” he said.
He also mentioned: “I won’t be performing ‘Another Brick In The Wall.’ I don’t think I’ve ever done it with my own band, but I definitely played it in post-Roger Pink Floyd, against my better judgment. The same goes for ‘Money’—I won’t be doing that either.”
His set list will focus on songs he was personally involved in creating, with Gilmour stating: “I’ll stick to the ones that I feel a sense of ownership over, like ‘Comfortably Numb,’ ‘Wish You Were Here,’ and ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond,’ perhaps…”
