Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor missed his eighth consecutive game due to back discomfort.

Mets star Francisco Lindor sits out his eighth consecutive game due to back pain but may make his return on Wednesday.

Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor missed his eighth consecutive game due to back discomfort on Tuesday night but was ready to pinch hit when New York recorded the final out in their 5-1 loss to the Atlanta Braves.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza mentioned that Lindor “could be in play” for Wednesday, although heavy rain is expected.

Before the start of a crucial three-game series, Lindor addressed reporters while wearing a heavy heat wrap on his back. He stated he would work out before the game to assess his readiness to come off the bench. A bone scan on Monday showed no structural damage, leading Lindor to believe there was minimal risk of aggravating his injury.

“He’s going to try to push it again and will let me know if he’s available today,” Mendoza said before the game. “That was the situation on Sunday, and after his workout, he felt he wasn’t ready yet. He’s honest with us and won’t jeopardize himself or the team.”

Lindor has only played one inning in the past ten games, but the Mets went 6-1 during a recent homestand and currently hold one of the three National League wild card spots, with five games left in a tight race involving San Diego, Arizona, and Atlanta.
