Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Redick has review why LeBron James and Bronny James cant play the same place.

Lakers Consider Plans for Historic First Game Featuring LeBron and Bronny.

Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Redick has begun considering the possibility of LeBron James and Bronny James making NBA history as the first father-son duo to play together this season. He stated that both players will be involved in planning how and when that moment will occur.

“We’ve discussed it as a coaching staff and have explored what that could look like,” Redick mentioned at a news conference alongside Lakers GM Rob Pelinka. “However, we haven’t finalized anything yet. It’s important to include Bronny and LeBron in that conversation when the time comes.”

LeBron, at 39, is entering his 22nd season, while 19-year-old Bronny is set to begin his rookie year after being drafted by the Lakers in the second round (No. 55 overall) following one season at USC.

Although the regular season kicks off on October 22 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Pelinka shared that the team has already witnessed the James connection during a recent pickup game at their practice facility.

“[Bronny] ended up guarding LeBron, and LeBron took him to the basket,” Pelinka recounted. “The banter afterward was quite lively.”

LeBron also joined in the fun on social media, sharing Pelinka’s comments and adding, “Great defense. Better O.”

Redick, now in his first season as a head coach after a successful broadcasting career, isn’t daunted by the task of managing the dynamics of the James family alongside the team.

“I don’t see it as a challenge,” he said. “It’s a unique experience. Bronny is eager, talented, and very coachable. I’m grateful to coach him.”

However, Redick faces the larger challenge of keeping the Lakers competitive in a tough Western Conference. After a first-round playoff exit, the team largely returns the same roster. While players like Gabe Vincent and Jalen Hood-Schifino are healthy, Jarred Vanderbilt is recovering from offseason foot procedures, and backup center Christian Wood is sidelined after knee surgery.

Pelinka emphasized the need for internal growth from key players such as Austin Reaves and D’Angelo Russell to support LeBron and Anthony Davis. He and Redick expressed confidence in the core lineup that finished last season strong and mentioned that they are open to trades to enhance the roster without compromising future seasons.

“We aim to build sustainable Lakers excellence,” Pelinka said, stressing the importance of thoughtful decision-making in trades.
