The Canadiens are deeply saddened by the news of Donald Marshall’s passing.
The Montreal Canadiens are saddened to hear about the passing of Donald Robert Marshall at the age of 92. Known as “Donnie,” he was the last surviving member of the Canadiens dynasty that captured five consecutive Stanley Cups from 1956 to 1960.
Marshall made his NHL debut in the 1951-52 season, playing one game with the Canadiens before establishing himself as a regular in the 1954-55 season. A Montreal native, he played 585 games for the Canadiens from 1951 to 1963, accumulating 254 points (114 goals, 140 assists) and often lined up alongside Phil Goyette and Claude Provost.
In total, Marshall played 1,176 NHL games with the Canadiens, New York Rangers, Buffalo Sabres, and Toronto Maple Leafs. Standing 5’10” and weighing 160 pounds, he scored 265 goals and recorded 324 assists before retiring after the 1971-72 season.
