Benched Eagles veteran identified as a possible trade target for the L.A. Rams.
The Philadelphia Eagles (4-2) are in a strong position to make trades ahead of the upcoming NFL deadline. However, with some veteran players struggling to find playing time under new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, the Eagles might consider trading for an extra draft pick from a team in need.
ESPN analyst Ben Solak recently mentioned that the benched Eagles nickel corner, Avonte Maddox, could be a trade target for the Los Angeles Rams. Solak noted that the Rams desperately need defensive backs to turn their season around. Maddox, a seasoned nickel defender, has lost his starting spot to rookie Cooper DeJean. While he may be past his prime, he’s still considered one of the better slot defenders available. Playing him in zone coverage and giving him some safety responsibilities could prove beneficial.
Maddox could hold trade value due to his affordable salary—he was released and then re-signed on a one-year, $1.6 million contract in April—and his versatility as both a nickel corner and safety.
He began the season as the Eagles’ starting slot corner but has seen limited action since losing that role, logging just 12 defensive snaps over the past two games.
The Philadelphia Eagles (4-2) are well-positioned to make trades as the NFL deadline approaches.
It’s possible that GM Howie Roseman will look to leverage some of those draft assets as both a buyer and a seller before the NFL’s trade deadline on November 5.
