Philadelphia Phillies All-Star Slugger to Serve as Guest Picker for ESPN College GameDay
One of the Philadelphia Phillies’ power hitters is returning to his roots this Saturday.
It was announced on Thursday that outfielder Kyle Schwarber will serve as the guest picker on ESPN’s College GameDay this weekend. This marks the first time the flagship college football pregame show will be in Bloomington, IN.
The show will highlight Schwarber’s alma mater, Indiana University, where he played college baseball. After three consecutive losing seasons, the Hoosiers are now 7-0 and ranked 13th nationally. They will be facing the Washington Huskies, who competed in last year’s National Championship.
“Can’t wait to see all you guys there on Saturday to cheer on the Hoosiers and to be the celebrity guest picker for College GameDay. It’s going to be exciting and fun,” Schwarber shared in a video on social media.
The two-time All-Star had an impressive collegiate career at Indiana. From 2012 to 2014, he was a two-time First Team All-American and ranks sixth in program history with 40 home runs, boasting a career batting average of .341 over 180 games.
He was drafted fourth overall in the 2014 MLB Draft by the Chicago Cubs, making him the highest draft pick in Indiana baseball history.
Schwarber has been with the Phillies since 2022 and has established himself as a key player in their lineup, hitting 131 regular-season home runs and 12 playoff homers, tying him with Bryce Harper for the most in franchise history.
It will be a welcome break for the Phillies slugger after their recent elimination by the New York Mets in the National League Division Series.
College GameDay will air on ESPN starting at 9 a.m. ET, with Schwarber expected to make his appearance towards the end of the final hour.
