Titans release Teair Tart: Tennessee moves on from starting DL over contract, personal issues, per report - CBSSports.com

The Tennessee Titans released defensive tackle Teair Tart on Friday after his four-season tenure with the team ended, as reported.

ESPN’s Turron Davenport stated that the Titans are parting ways with Tart, a fourth-year player, due to concerns regarding his commitment and demeanor. Sources within the team highlighted issues with Tart’s effort during and after the Titans’ recent victory over the Miami Dolphins, leading to this decision. There were indications of dissatisfaction from Tart regarding his limited playing time, as he aimed to secure a long-term contract in the upcoming offseason.

During this season, Tart participated in 11 games, registering 21 tackles and one sack. In the recent win against the Miami Dolphins, he was on the field for 30 of the team’s 69 defensive snaps, accounting for 47% of Tennessee’s defensive plays throughout the season.

Titans head coach Mike Vrabel had addressed Tart’s situation in November, hinting at the potential for Tart to perform well on the field and thereby contribute to both the team and his own future in terms of securing a long-term contract.

Tart had signed a one-year deal worth $4,303,000 for the 2023 season and is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2024.

Undrafted from Florida International in 2020, Tart joined the Titans and accumulated a total of 76 tackles and 2.5 sacks during his time with the team. His most productive season came last year, recording 34 tackles and 1.5 sacks.

With a 5-8 record this season, the Titans currently hold the fourth spot in the AFC South and are likely out of playoff contention. They are scheduled to face the Houston Texans in their upcoming game on Sunday.
