Ohio State continues to strengthen its position in the transfer portal, securing a commitment from former Alabama quarterback Julian Sayin.
The Buckeyes, who have been making notable moves in the transfer market, added Sayin to their roster on Sunday. This marks the third acquisition for Ohio State from the Crimson Tide through the portal, with offensive lineman Seth McLaughlin and top-ranked defensive back Caleb Downs already making the move.
A former five-star recruit hailing from Carlsbad, California, Sayin was a highly touted prospect in Alabama’s pipeline. Verbally committed to the Crimson Tide since November 2, 2022, he signed his national letter of intent in December 2023. However, following the coaching change at Alabama, with Nick Saban retiring and Kalen DeBoer taking over, Sayin opted to transfer, a decision believed to be linked to Saban’s departure.
Sayin now joins Ohio State’s quarterback roster, becoming the fifth contender for the starting position. Will Howard, a transfer from Kansas State, is considered the frontrunner, but Sayin faces competition from underclassmen Devin Brown, Lincoln Kienholz, and Air Noland. Sayin, with the least experience among the quartet, will have to showcase his skills during preseason camp and, if given the opportunity, in the 2024 Spring Game to vie for the starting role.
