The Pittsburgh Steelers have made their ultimate decision regarding defensive coordinator Teryl Austin.
The focus remains on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ quest for a new offensive coordinator, and it is likely to remain a prominent topic in the foreseeable future. According to Gerry Dulac of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on January 23, Steelers defensive coordinator Teryl Austin is expected to make a return.
Dulac reported, “Teryl Austin, whose two-year contract expired after the season, is expected to return as defensive coordinator after the Steelers ranked sixth in the league in fewest points allowed in 2023 (19.1 per game).”
This marks Austin’s third stint as an NFL defensive coordinator, having previously held the position for the Detroit Lions from 2014-17 and the Cincinnati Bengals in 2018. The Steelers, under Austin’s leadership, have achieved back-to-back top 10 finishes in points allowed. However, it is noted that they were ranked 21st in yards allowed during the 2023 season.
