The University of Florida is reportedly bringing on board Joe Houston, who currently serves as a special teams assistant for the New England Patriots.
After spending four seasons with the New England Patriots, Joe Houston is set to make a return to the collegiate level. The Florida Gators are reportedly bringing him on board as a special teams analyst, as disclosed by Jacob Rudner of 247Sports on Sunday. Unlike his previous role with the Patriots, this new position won’t require him to be part of the on-field staff for the Gators.
Houston joined the Patriots as an assistant special teams coach in 2020, following a stint as a kicking game analyst at Alabama under Nick Saban in 2019. Before his time in the NFL, Houston had coaching experiences at El Camino College, Toledo, and Iowa State. He earned a promotion to special teams coordinator during his tenure with the Cyclones in 2018.
A graduate of USC, Houston, as a redshirt senior in 2010, led the Trojans in scoring, converting 10-of-16 field goals and 43-of-43 extra points. Following his college career, he played in the Arena Football League for the Chicago Rush and in the Indoor Football League for the Nebraska Danger.
