Arthur Smith, the former head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, is currently in discussions for the Offensive Coordinator role with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
After his departure on Black Monday, Smith is gearing up for his first interview, scheduled for Sunday, as reported by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Over the past three seasons, Smith led the Falcons but was relieved of his duties on January 8 following a 21-30 record and a final loss to the New Orleans Saints. Recognized for his offensive prowess, he previously found success as the offensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans before joining Atlanta.
During his tenure with the Falcons, Smith faced criticism for certain decisions, particularly in the perceived underutilization of key players like tight end Kyle Pitts and running back Bijan Robinson. Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Steelers, who parted ways with offensive coordinator Matt Canada mid-season, are actively seeking a permanent solution to enhance their offensive capabilities.
Other candidates being considered for the Steelers’ offensive coordinator role include former Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Thomas Brown and Houston Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson. Despite initial interest in Zac Robinson, the Falcons secured his services on Saturday night. Notably, if Smith secures the position with the Steelers, he will face a return to Atlanta when the Steelers visit Mercedes-Benz Stadium next season.
