Charlton is optimistic about bringing in Nathan Jones as their new manager, according to an inside source.
The search for a new head coach has been ongoing since January 23, following the dismissal of Michael Appleton after a 3-2 defeat against Northampton.
Former Southampton manager Jones emerged as an early contender for the position, and it appears the Welshman is now poised to assume the managerial role at League One Charlton. This would mark his first managerial position since his dismissal from St Mary’s in February 2023.
With experience in both the Premier League and the Championship with Stoke, the 50-year-old manager has notably guided Luton from League Two to League One in 2018, a feat that likely encourages Charlton fans.
If Jones is appointed, he would be the third permanent manager for Charlton this season. The campaign began with Dean Holden, who was dismissed in August after just one win in six matches. Jason Pearce took over on a caretaker basis, followed by Michael Appleton, who lasted only a few months before being relieved of his duties last month.
Jones would be faced with the challenging task of steering Charlton away from relegation to the fourth tier of English football, a situation the club has not encountered in its history, currently sitting 18th in the table.
