Tension in Town as their key star defender depart from the team to join..
Tommy Smith, the ex-Town Town , has joined Australian team Macarthur FC following his departure from League Two’s MK Dons.
The Bulls are currently positioned fourth in the A-League, and the recent signing is deemed crucial as they aim to contend for the championship.
At the age of 33, Smith joined MK Dons in the summer after being released by Colchester United. However, he has struggled to secure regular playing time at Stadium MK, making only 13 appearances, with just three since Mike Williamson assumed control in October.
Originally from New Zealand, Smith entered Town’s academy at 16, accumulating over 250 appearances and scoring 23 goals for the Blues. After departing Town in January 2018 for the MLS’s Colorado Rapids, he later joined Sunderland in 2020.
The New Zealand international may face former Town teammates Ben Folami and Ryan Tunnicliffe, who play for Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United, respectively.
In the Bulls’ announcement of Smith’s arrival on their website, it is stated, “Tommy Smith’s association with the club is considered a pivotal move to strengthen the Bulls’ defensive capabilities, aligning with the club’s objectives for the remainder of the 2023/24 A-League Season and our ongoing AFC Cup campaign.”
