Liam Coen expresses that accepting the Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator position was an obvious and straightforward decision.
The former Kentucky play-caller has officially made a return to the NFL. Liam Coen, once again, abruptly departed from the Kentucky Wildcats program to take on the role of offensive coordinator in the NFL, this time joining Todd Bowles and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers staff after a brief stint back at Kentucky.
When discussing his decision to leave Lexington, Coen emphasized that joining the Buccaneers was an obvious choice for him. He stated, “This was a no-brainer for me,” during a conversation with local media on Wednesday.
Elaborating on his move to the Bucs, Coen highlighted the enticing opportunity to work with Baker Mayfield and reunite with John Wolford, whom he had previously coached with the Los Angeles Rams. He expressed excitement about the prospect and explained, “This was altogether really something we could not turn away from whatsoever. This is something that we’re really excited about as a family. My father lives an hour and a half from Tampa, I’ve spent a lot of time down here, and this was just a no-brainer for us.”
While the Kentucky offense didn’t dazzle last season, there is ample potential on that side of the football. Head coach Mark Stoops aims to bring in someone capable of elevating the offense with the existing talent on the roster.
