The Philadelphia Eagles are bolstering their defense in a move that may become significant during training camp and preseason. The team officially announced on social media Wednesday that they have signed Julian Okwara, a former third-round linebacker from the Detroit Lions, to a reserve future deal, according to NFL insider Aaron Wilson. Okwara, 26, was selected by Detroit as the 67th overall pick in the third round after completing a four-year career at Notre Dame. He spent four seasons with the Lions, contributing to this year’s nine games with seven total

tackles, two sacks, and one pass breakup. Notably, Okwara had a standout performance in 2021, playing in a career-best 13 games and showcasing versatility on the field with 27 total tackles, five sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, one interception, and two passes defended.

Throughout his career, Okwara has accumulated nine sacks. Considering the Eagles’ front seven, which struggled in the latter half of the previous season, Okwara’s addition could potentially bring a spark, especially in light of potential departures such as Fletcher Cox and Haason Reddick, despite Reddick’s false trade request. If Okwara secures a spot on the 53-man roster, he could play a crucial role in reinforcing the team’s defense.
