It seems that Michigan football has, at last, secured its defensive backs coach. Reports indicate that LaMar Morgan, who served as the defensive backs coach under defensive coordinator Jesse Minter at Vanderbilt in 2021, will be joining Sherrone Moore’s staff in Ann Arbor to take charge of the defensive backs.

Morgan has spent the last two seasons as the defensive coordinator and safeties coach at Louisiana, his alma mater, where he played safety for four years from 2003 to 2007.

This hiring brings to a close what appears to have been a tumultuous 10-day period in the defensive backs room, starting on February 7 when the former defensive backs coach, Steve Clinkscale, initially communicated his decision to stay for the upcoming season. However, changes in his buyout led to a reversal of that decision early on Saturday morning, and he ultimately chose to join Jim Harbaugh’s staff in Los Angeles.
