Joe-Schoen-1

Joe Schoen of the New York Giants was blasted for poor treatment of an injured star player.

The unfolding drama between the New York Giants and Saquon Barkley is reaching a critical point, and it is widely anticipated that the aftermath will be far from pleasant. The frequently injured running back has demonstrated his prowess when available, but the Giants organization appears to have exhausted its patience with him.

Saquon Barkley, a Penn State alum and the second overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, is not the only one expressing frustration with the way General Manager Joe Schoen has handled his situation. Two hosts of a popular football show took the opportunity to criticize Schoen for his treatment of Barkley, and the analogy used to describe the dilemma is adding fuel to the criticism.

During a recent episode of Get Up, host Bart Scott did not mince words when discussing Saquon Barkley’s predicament. He strongly criticized Schoen and the Giants organization for failing to treat the 27-year-old running back with the respect and maturity he deserves.

Giants Wire’s Tyler Henry summarized Scott’s passionate critique:

“Joe Schoen needs to just tell Saquon, ‘Listen, man, we just not that into you.’ You’re out here treating Saquon like a sidepiece,” Scott said on ESPN’s Get Up. “They give him just enough to make him satisfied.”

Co-host Kimberley A. Martin concurred, saying, “That’s a great analogy. It is, unfortunately.”

While the Giants’ desire to move on from Barkley is understandable given the shorter peak years of running backs compared to other offensive playmakers, the analogy suggests a lack of commitment and respect in their approach. Barkley, despite facing multiple injuries at a young age, has proven himself as a capable running back. In 14 games, he rushed for 962 yards and 6 TDs on 3.6 yards per carry.

Given the current trajectory, it seems inevitable that Barkley will part ways with the New York Giants. Fans can only hope that the terms of the separation will be mutually beneficial for all parties involved.
