Rolling Meadows High School has a notable history, producing former 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo as a 2010 graduate. Despite previous successes, the school faced challenges in the last season, finishing with a 2-7 record. Gould, who spent ten standout seasons with the Chicago Bears from 2005-2015, meeting with the players at the school on Friday, marks a new chapter in his football journey. However, local media were not granted access to speak with him during the meeting.
Gould, a franchise legend with the Chicago Bears and the team’s all-time leading scorer upon departure in 2015, found renewed success with the San Francisco 49ers after joining them in 2017. Despite his consistent performance as one of the league’s premier kickers, the 49ers and Gould couldn’t reach a contract extension agreement. In response, the organization drafted Jake Moody in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft to take over Gould’s role.
The veteran kicker officially retired on December 7, 2023, concluding his career as the 10th all-time leading scorer in NFL history. Gould’s retirement marked the end of a remarkable journey, where he boasted an 86.5 percent field goal accuracy, ranking him as the ninth-most accurate kicker in league history.
