The Arkansas pitching staff set a new program record by notching 25 strikeouts in Saturday’s game against Oklahoma State, surpassing the previous mark of 23 strikeouts achieved in the previous night’s victory against No. 7 Oregon State.

Right-hander Brady Tygart contributed six strikeouts in a notable quality start, lasting six innings while allowing only three hits and two walks. The bullpen took over seamlessly, with Koty Frank (5), Stone Hewlett (1), Jake Faherty (1), Gabe Gaeckle (6), and Colin Fisher (6) collectively accounting for the remaining 19 strikeouts.

Tygart’s strong performance paved the way for Frank, who struck out five in 1.2 innings of relief. True freshmen Gaeckle and Fisher also showcased their dominance on the mound, with Gaeckle recording six strikeouts in 2.2 shutout innings, and Fisher, despite taking the loss, contributing six strikeouts in his 2.1 innings of relief work.

Despite the historic pitching display, Arkansas fell short in the 14th inning when Oklahoma State’s Lane Forsythe executed a suicide squeeze bunt on an 0-2 pitch, bringing home the game-winning run from third.

Arkansas faced challenges in stranding 15 base runners throughout the game, finishing 2-for-24 with runners on base and 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position. Jared Sprague-Lott led the offensive efforts with three hits, including two doubles, while Kendall Diggs contributed two hits, including the team’s sole RBI in the top of the fifth inning.

The Razorbacks initially led 1-0 until the bottom of the ninth when the Cowboys scored, sending the game into extra innings.
