The Miami Dolphins continue their coaching shakeup, with the latest addition being Roman Sapolu, currently serving as the University of Hawaii’s co-offensive coordinator/offensive line coach. Sapolu, the son of former NFL guard Jesse Sapolu, will join the Dolphins as an offensive assistant. Despite having no prior NFL coaching experience, he worked as a summer coaching intern with the San Francisco 49ers in 2018, collaborating with Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel during McDaniel’s second season as the 49ers’ run game coordinator.
The Dolphins have also brought in Brian Duker as their new secondary coach/pass game coordinator. Duker, who previously worked with Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver on the Cleveland Browns staff in 2015, spent the last three seasons with the Detroit Lions as their defensive backs coach. His coaching journey includes time with the Baltimore Ravens, and he has a history of working closely with players, such as aiding Kerby Joseph in a standout rookie season in 2022.
Notably, several Dolphins offensive assistants, including Ricardo Allen, Mike Judge, and Kolby Smith, will not be returning in 2024. Additionally, Renaldo Hill and Sam Madison, who held key roles in the secondary, won’t be back with the team. The coaching changes extend beyond the defensive side, with linebackers coach Anthony Campanile, assistant special teams coach Brendan Farrell, safeties coach Joe Kasper, and assistant defensive line coach Kenny Baker also departing.
While the official announcement of these coaching changes is pending, the Dolphins traditionally refrain from confirming staff adjustments until the entire coaching team is finalized.
