Farewell legend…

The linebacker, a two-time Super Bowl champion, left an indelible mark on Steelers history during his 12-season tenure with the team, both for his contributions on the field and his off-field endeavors.

In 1963, he became a part of the team after being drafted in the 16th round from Missouri. Following his rookie season, he fulfilled ROTC duties with a two-year stint in the Army before rejoining the Steelers in 1966. From there, he became a pivotal figure in the renowned Steel Curtain defense of the 1970s. His accolades include seven Pro Bowl selections, with six consecutive appearances from 1970 to 1975, and a second-team All-Pro designation in 1972.

Over the course of his career, he accumulated 38 sacks, 18 interceptions, and 10 fumble recoveries across 168 games.

Post-football, Russell established the Andy Russell Charitable Foundation and earned recognition as the Big Brothers and Sisters Man of the Year in 1989.
