Matt Judon, the star linebacker for the New England Patriots, remains optimistic about quarterback Mac Jones’ ability to reverse his recent challenges and effectively lead the team. Despite Jones being benched on multiple occasions in the past two seasons, Judon expressed confidence in Jones’ potential.

According to Judon, Jones has demonstrated his capabilities when operating within a comfortable and well-structured system. Judon cited instances such as the impressive 45-7 victory against the Cleveland Browns in 2021, where Jones played a key role in leading the team. While acknowledging the quarterback’s need to regain confidence and establish a rhythm, Judon recognized the difficulty Jones faces, having dealt with four different offensive coordinators in as many years.

Jones, selected as the 15th overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, enjoyed a successful rookie season, finishing second in the Offensive Rookie of the Year voting and earning a Pro Bowl nod with 22 touchdowns and 3,801 passing yards. However, the subsequent seasons have not matched the initial success, partly due to the lack of explosive playmakers around Jones and changes in offensive coaching staff.

Despite a challenging 2022 season, including a change to offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien and Jones being benched for the final stretch, Judon believes the quarterback can bounce back. The Patriots now face a crucial decision at the quarterback position, contemplating whether to persist with Jones and anticipate a turnaround in his fourth year or explore the option of selecting a new signal-caller with their No. 3 overall draft pick.
