“Nickens’ Departure Deals Significant Blow to Oklahoma’s Prospects”
Nickens initially pledged his commitment to Emmett Jones and his colleagues in August, joining fellow 4-star wide receivers Elijah Thomas and Gracen Harris in the Sooners’ 2025 recruiting lineup.
Ranked as the 106th overall prospect and the 9th wide receiver in the forthcoming recruitment season, Nickens’ departure represents a significant setback for Oklahoma. The dynamic athlete played a pivotal role in bolstering Brent Venables and his team’s standing, contributing to one of the nation’s top six recruiting classes.
Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 190 pounds, Nickens boasts prowess in both football and basketball, earning multiple Division I offers in both sports. Following his lead in guiding Millwood (OK) to a state title appearance in football last season, the Oklahoma City native transferred to Douglass (OK), aiding the Trojans in securing a state championship on the basketball court.
In a social media post, Nickens stated, “This decommitment is solely driven by my personal aspirations.” The dual-sport standout also declared, “My recruitment is now completely open!! For both sports.”
With Nickens no longer part of the Sooners’ 2025 recruiting class, Oklahoma currently has nine committed players for the upcoming cycle. Despite remaining contenders for several talented 2025 wide receivers, Jones and his team suffered a significant setback with the loss of this local talent.
