“Daniel Jeremiah Forecasts Commanders Drafting North Carolina Quarterback Drake Maye Over Heisman Winner Jayden Daniels”
NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah predicts that the Commanders will select North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye over 2023 Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels.
Jeremiah mentioned that he doesn’t have any further insight into Washington’s choice compared to his previous mock draft, which also had Maye going second overall.
As of now, there doesn’t appear to be a consensus regarding the Commanders’ selection, which is understandable given that the draft is still five weeks away. They will have the opportunity to evaluate Daniels in person during LSU’s pro day on March 27 and Maye at North Carolina’s pro day on March 28.
In another notable quarterback-team pairing, Jeremiah suggests that Michael Penix Jr. could be drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders with the 13th pick.
Jeremiah believes that Penix’s skill set aligns uniquely well with the Raiders’ offensive style, despite the assumption that he might be more suited for the second round. He points out that Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce emphasized a desire for a vertical offense during his introductory press conference. Moreover, offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, who was recently hired, previously attempted to implement a similar style of play during his tenure with the Chicago Bears, albeit with mixed results.
Given this shared vision for a downfield passing game, Penix could be an ideal fit for the Raiders, having demonstrated proficiency in this style of play during his time at Washington over the past two years.
