“New York Yankees Reportedly Not Pursuing Deal with Blake Snell”
Despite widespread speculation, the New York Yankees are reportedly not pursuing a deal with Blake Snell.
Throughout the offseason, there had been numerous rumors linking Snell to New York, but according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the two-time Cy Young Award winner is set to sign with the San Francisco Giants.
Passan stated, “Reigning National League Cy Young winner Blake Snell and the San Francisco Giants are in agreement on a two-year, $62 million contract that includes an opt-out after the first season, a source tells ESPN.”
Snell’s free agency journey, which lasted nine days until Opening Day, concluded with the deal with the Giants. Initially seeking a long-term contract, Snell’s desired price point failed to materialize in the market, ultimately leading him to San Francisco.
While Snell would have been a desirable addition to the Yankees and could have addressed one of their significant needs, the financial demands proved to be too steep for New York. With Gerrit Cole sidelined for at least one or two months due to an elbow injury, the Yankees have a glaring void in their starting rotation. However, signing Snell would have imposed a significant tax burden on the team.
